All the signs are there, pointing to the implosion of the Tibetan leadership. In recent times, Tibetans have learned about US$1.5 million that was embezzled by one of the Dalai Lama’s closest aides, Tenzin Dhonden, who was also implicated in a sexual scandal. Incensed by news about the abrupt dismissal of Penpa Tsering from his post as the Dalai Lama’s representative in North America, Tibetans have also been busy protesting against Sikyong Lobsang Sangay. They claim that Sangay, as the Prime Minster of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA; Tibetan leadership in Dharamsala), spearheaded and masterminded Penpa Tsering’s dismissal and swift replacement.

The anger against Lobsang Sangay is not waning or going away

Simultaneously, there are those who support Lobsang Sangay, who assert that for his “performance deficit” and insubordination towards the leadership. They, in turn, have launched counter-protests against Penpa Tsering and his supporters. Now the people are protesting against Tenpa Yarphel, the member of Parliament who previously criticized the CTA’s reliance on Nechung as archaic and irrelevant, and unbefitting of the ideals of a democracy. Are you keeping up yet? If you are confused, then realize that your confusion is the result of the CTA’s machinations over the last 60 years.

  1. The fact is that the CTA have spent the last six decades drawing divisions wherever possible. Whether it is fostering regionalism, splitting the Karma Kagyus in half over the Karmapa issue, refusing equal representation to the Jonangpas, or encouraging their people to segregate Dorje Shugden practitioners, the CTA’s raison d’etre with their people has always been to divide and conquer them, and in the process to profit from doing so. And now that there are so many divisions from every angle, it has become nigh near impossible for the CTA to handle them or deal with them all at once
  2. Consider that the Tibetan exiled population is somewhere just over 128,000, with the majority of them (94,000) based in India. Any observer will easily surmise that there is a distinct lack of unity amongst the community. If the CTA is unable to keep unity amongst these 128,000 exiled Tibetans, how will they ever rule six million if they ever accomplish their political goals? If they can alienate people from such a small population, what will happen if they ever gain control of six million?
  3. And seeing the shambles that is their leadership, it is highly doubtful that China will ever grant any kind of meaningful autonomy to the Tibetans because to do so would be creating a potential hotspot for instability within China. If the CTA cannot control their people or fostering harmony in their small exiled society, they will not be able to do it in Tibet. So what government would knowingly and purposefully allow instability to be created like that within their own borders?
  4. These days, instead of protesting against external enemies, the Tibetans spend more time protesting against their own government and their own people who have broken up into different factions. One by one, each potential leader is being protested against and on top of that, they broke election rules to disqualify Lukar Jam from running in the last race to become Prime Minister. As each leader loses the confidence of the people and is alienated from any kind of power base, over time, there will be no one left who can lead.
  5. If this political disharmony exists WHILE His Holiness the Dalai Lama is alive, imagine when he is gone and the Tibetans have no one else to turn to, whom they will near-universally take the advice of. At such a time, there is no doubt these power struggles will rise to the surface, perhaps bringing violence to the Tibetan community who are already vitriolic in their beliefs when the Dalai Lama is still around to calm them down and keep them united.

Protestors in Dharamsala voiced their unhappiness against Lobsang Sangay’s abrupt and politically-motivated dismissal of political rival Penpa Tsering from his post as the Dalai Lama’s representative in North America

It is clear that independent of the Dalai Lama and the respect the Tibetans have for him, the CTA have no real control or leadership over their people. What is more, they have no interest in developing this leadership and in fact, for the most part, the violence and disharmony we witness in the community is often fanned by the leadership themselves. But is any of this any surprise when the leadership are keen to weaken the people to ensure no one becomes powerful enough to challenge them and their ways? Is any of this any surprise when the leadership purposefully suppresses their people and keeps them as refugees in order to continue exploiting them for donations? More Tibetans should realize that the present situation is all caused by the CTA and realize that as long as the same people are in power, nothing is ever going to change. Contrary to the lies they told the world, Dorje Shugden people did not harm the Tibetan cause, and it was always the CTA who did it. The present conflicts that we witness today have nothing to do with Dorje Shugden practice, since Shugden practitioners were banned from participating in any mainstream Tibetan activities when the ban against their practice was enforced 20 years ago. Back then, in 1996, the CTA did not realize it but by segregating Shugden people from everyone else and refusing to allow them to practice their civic duty, the Tibetan leadership essentially made sure that Shugden practitioners cannot be blamed for all of the present-day problems that the CTA are now facing.

Come rain, snow, sleet, sun or hail, the Tibetans are going to continue their protests against Lobsang Sangay for the manner in which he has conducted himself in office

  • It was the CTA who harmed the cause of Tibet by creating the rangzen/umaylam split…it was not Dorje Shugden practitioners.
  • It was the CTA who got involved with the Karmapa issue and split the Karma Kagyu in half…it was not Dorje Shugden practitioners.
  • It was the CTA who stayed silent when the Gyalwang Drukpa’s monasteries were forcibly converted…it was not Dorje Shugden practitioners.
  • It was the CTA who stayed silent and allowed their people to self-immolate in the name of the so-called Tibetan cause…it was not Dorje Shugden practitioners.
  • It was the CTA who lied, stole and cheated their own people of US$1.5 million…it was not Dorje Shugden practitioners.
  • It was the CTA who became embroiled in money laundering scandals…it was not Dorje Shugden practitioners.
  • It was the CTA who accepted money as part of a visa-for-cash scheme…it was not Dorje Shugden practitioners.
  • It was the CTA who took bribes and allowed the Dalai Lama to associate with someone accused of being a cult leader…it was not Dorje Shugden practitioners who did this.
  • It was the CTA who fought and brawled on the streets with the Dalai Lama’s students…it was not Dorje Shugden practitioners.

And now it is the CTA harming overall general Tibetan harmony, as clearly evident by the different factions who are now protesting against each other, due to the encouragement of their various leaders. When the Tibetan leaders will pit their own people against each other, after all of this, why would anyone ever believe the CTA ever again? The answer to that question is a resounding NO when looking at the images below, which call for a protest against the government in mid-March. The message is clear – the Tibetans are fed up and time’s almost up for the CTA.

Due also to the divisive and isolationist policies of the CTA over the past 60 years, the Tibetans in exile and now India-born Tibetans have failed to assimilate and integrate with the Indian populace.

This very harmful and backward policy is now rearing its ugly results and is giving headache to the Indian government. It is a matter of time before the Indian government will have to dismantle the status of Tibetans in exile and make all of them Indian citizens.

DHARAMSHALA, Feb. 27: Two Tibetan youths have been badly injured after a skirmish between Tibetan and Indian youth. The incident escalated when over 50 local Indian men on Monday morning entered the Tibetan refugee settlement in Satuan village in Sirmaur District, near the Poanta Sahib town located at the Himachal-Uttrakhand border, terrorizing and thrashing Tibetan men, one of whom sustained serious injury and is awaiting surgery, sources said.

Jamyang, a resident Tibetan and a community representative told Phayul that the incident started on Sunday night when two Tibetan youth were confronted by two local Indians at an eatery who objected to them speaking in Tibetan. The argument escalated into a physical skirmish. The mobile phone and watches of the Tibetan youth were snatched in the melee, he added.

Alternate versions of the incident also appeared when local Indians who spoke to the Himachal Abhi Abhi, said they were thrashed by the Tibetan men and their bikes allegedly damaged by the same men belonging to the Tibetan settlements.

The Tibetan source said that he witnessed four Indian men come to the Tibetan settlement on the night of Feb. 25. “We pleaded the the Indian youths to leave the settlement after they beat some Tibetan youths, one of which had both his hands broken. I thought the matter was settled but the next morning, over 50 men carrying sticks entered the settlement and terrorized the people here. A deaf Tibetan man was badly beaten and sustained a large gash on his head, another youth’s leg was broken with bones sticking out,” Jamyang told Phayul.

One Tibetan youth has been transferred to a hospital in Nahan and is awaiting surgery. Four Tibetan youths were confirmed to have been injured while local media reported three Indian youth also suffered injuries.

Both parties have filed First Information Reports (FIR) at the Rajban police station as of yesterday and the matter is under investigation. Local police have deployed patrolling units around the Tibetan settlement.

The refugee settlement in Satuan was founded decades ago when Tibetans who came from Tibet, worked at the local quarry. The settlement in the outskirts of the Ponta Sahib town is home to less than 50 Tibetan households with less than 180 people today.

President Sangay launches attacks back on Mila Rangzen for telling the truth. How can people support the Tibetan govt in exile when it has so many dirty dealings behind the scenes and under the Dalai Lama’s nose?

    This is all about power!

The Tibetan Government is not doing their job but just take advantage for themselves. No second thoughts about the Tibetans who suffer for 60 years already!

    This is such a shame!

We all must join the protests! This all has to stop!
